ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
Matt DeCotiis is a co-founder and principal at Cicada, an architecture and design firm that provides videography, virtual reality and rendering services as well. Prior to Cicada, Matt created 30minus90 Design, a design and fabrication consulting firm that specialized in architectural renderings, design, graphic design, and fabrication. Matt has experience in residential design and construction and onsite fabrication. He is currently working on several residential projects in New York State as well as supporting the predevelopment analysis and visioning for Urban Focus and CivicMoxie, an affiliated urban planning firm. In his work, he stresses the importance and value of traditional building and design methodologies while embracing emerging technologies with the understanding that they can help produce more efficient and sustainable buildings through digital fabrication and monitoring. His renderings and early design planning help support the overall project visioning by providing a realistic baseline for the project development.
Matt received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Northeastern University in 2008. He went on to work for BKSK Architects in New York City, specializing in 3D modeling and graphic design, before moving to New Orleans. He also holds a Masters Degree in architecture from Tulane University. Matt co-teaches in the UrbanBuilld and Tulane City Center programs at Tulane School of Architecture both efforts include both in the studio and onsite fabricating the project with the students. The project he co-taught for URBANbuild won the AIA Honor Award in the category of Master Planning and Design.
